Lithgow city is the main centre for shopping in the Lithgow region. It has all the amenities and conveniences of a large regional city.

The Lithgow Valley Plaza has over 500 parking spaces. It has two anchor stores and over 30 specialty retailers including:
Aldi and Woolworths are within close proximity of the Valley Plaza as is Harvey Norman’s and Repco.
Main St is a hub of activity for local residents and hosts a number of specialty shops in heritage listed terraces. There is a health shop, yoga centre, crystal shop, designer jewellery shop, natural gift-ware shops, hairdressers, beauticians, massage therapists, a dentist, a florist, and a chiropractic centre.
There are a number of boutiques, and banking services including (Lithgow born and bred) Family First Bank, Commbank, Westpac/St George, and also home grown health insurer Westfund. 11 Main St also hosts a range of well known cafes, restaurants, and bars and an art gallery.
Parallel to Main St is Station St which has the Lithgow Medical Centre, a dentist, a gym, and a furniture shop.
Additional to Lithgow city having shopping areas, Wallerawang and Portland also have shopping hubs that feature post offices, mini supermarkets, coffee shops, pubs and bakeries.
The region has well established social infrastructures such as health and education services.
There are three high schools in the Lithgow Seven Valleys region and twelve primary schools. With three aged care facilities and four child care centres, Lithgow region caters for the needs of all age groups.
Lithgow Hospital is a district teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Notre Dame, offering a 24-hour emergency department and a range of surgical and other services and is part of Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. While Lithgow Community Private Hospital has a range of quality specialist centre and day surgery services.
There is a local TAFE offering courses on electrical and mechanical engineering trades, general education, tertiary preparation, aged care, business, computing, outdoor recreation, hospitality, children’s services, community services, animal studies and English language skills.
The Western Sydney University has a presence in Lithgow called the Maldhan Ngurr Ngurra Lithgow Transformation Hub. The site addresses the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, empowering the local community to overcome regional challenges. The Hub’s focus is on collaboration with industry, education and community partners in realising Lithgow’s future as a productive, sustainable city. In collaboration with community partners, the Hub runs short courses on permaculture, sustainability, talks, seminars and art exhibitions and programs. The Hub offers hot desk facilities and room bookings for students and small to micro business people starting out.
